Sun Protection Mistakes

People often make mistakes when it comes to sun protection. Here are some common errors:
  1. Not Applying Enough Sunscreen: Many people underestimate the amount of sunscreen needed for effective protection. Applying too little reduces its effectiveness.

  2. Skipping Sunscreen on Cloudy Days: UV rays can penetrate clouds, so even on cloudy days, it's important to wear sunscreen.

  3. Forgetting to Reapply: Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours or more frequently if swimming or sweating. People often forget to reapply, diminishing its effectiveness.

  4. Neglecting Certain Areas: People may forget to apply sunscreen to commonly overlooked areas such as the ears, back of the neck, and tops of the feet.

  5. Using Expired Sunscreen: Sunscreen has an expiration date. Using expired sunscreen may result in reduced effectiveness.

  6. Relying Solely on Sunscreen: Sunscreen is just one part of sun protection. Wearing protective clothing, seeking shade, and wearing sunglasses are also important.

  7. Not Applying Sunscreen Before Sun Exposure: Sunscreen should be applied at least 15-30 minutes before going outdoors to allow it to be absorbed by the skin.

  8. Ignoring UV Index: The UV Index indicates the strength of UV radiation. Ignoring it can lead to inadequate sun protection on days when UV levels are high.

  9. Thinking Water Offers Complete Protection: Being in the water doesn't fully protect against UV rays. Water can reflect and intensify UV radiation, increasing the risk of sunburn.

  10. Not Considering Medication Interactions: Some medications can increase sensitivity to sunlight. People taking such medications should take extra precautions.

It's important to be aware of these common mistakes and practice comprehensive sun protection for overall skin health.

The Sun-Savvy Solution: Long Sleeve Sun Shirts as Ideal Base Layers

Title: The Sun-Savvy Solution: Long Sleeve Sun Shirts as Ideal Base Layers

Introduction

In the realm of outdoor adventures, selecting the right clothing can make all the difference in comfort and performance. While base layers are traditionally associated with insulation and moisture-wicking properties, the emergence of long sleeve sun shirts as base layer options has been a game-changer. These innovative garments not only provide a protective shield against harmful UV rays but also offer a range of benefits that make them ideal for use as base layers.

UV Protection: The Primary Advantage

One of the primary reasons why long sleeve sun shirts excel as base layers is their exceptional UV protection. These shirts are designed with specialized fabrics that boast a high Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), effectively blocking the sun's harmful rays. Unlike traditional base layers, which focus on insulation, sun shirts prioritize safeguarding your skin from sunburn and long-term damage caused by prolonged exposure to UV radiation. Some brands of sun shirts offer a hooded option. This added sun protection makes them a must-have for outdoor enthusiasts who spend extended periods in the sun. Remember, the colder weather doesn't block those harmful UV rays.

Moisture Management and Cooling

Long sleeve sun shirts are crafted from advanced moisture-wicking materials that efficiently pull sweat away from the body. This feature ensures that even in the heat of the sun, you remain dry and comfortable. As base layers, these shirts help regulate body temperature by efficiently managing moisture, preventing the discomfort associated with sweat-soaked clothing. The breathability of these shirts is an added bonus, facilitating air circulation and promoting a cooling effect during strenuous activities.

Versatility in Various Environments

Base layers are often associated with cold weather activities, but long sleeve sun shirts break this mold by offering versatility across a range of environments. Whether you're hiking, climbing, cycling, or engaging in water sports, these shirts provide a protective base layer that adapts to different conditions. Their lightweight and quick-drying nature make them suitable for both hot and cool climates, offering a year-round solution for outdoor enthusiasts.

Comfort and Freedom of Movement

The design of long sleeve sun shirts prioritizes comfort and freedom of movement. The fabrics used are often lightweight, soft, and stretchy, allowing for unrestricted mobility. This is particularly advantageous for activities that involve dynamic movements, such as rock climbing or trail running. The ergonomic designs and flat-seam construction of these shirts minimize chafing and irritation, ensuring a comfortable experience throughout your outdoor pursuits.

Durability and Easy Care

Sun shirts are designed with durability in mind, capable of withstanding the rigors of outdoor adventures. The fabrics are often resistant to abrasions, tears, and exposure to the elements. Additionally, they are easy to care for, with many options being machine washable and quick to air dry. This durability and low maintenance make long sleeve sun shirts a practical choice for base layers, as they can endure the demands of frequent use in various conditions.

Conclusion

Hooded, long sleeve sun shirts have emerged as a smart and practical choice for base layers in the world of outdoor activities. Their UV protection, moisture management, versatility, comfort, and durability make them a valuable addition to the wardrobe of anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors. Whether you're embarking on a sunny hike, hitting the waves, or tackling a challenging climbing route, these sun-savvy base layers provide the protection and performance needed for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Some Ways You May or May Not Know About Avoiding Sun Burns

Sun protection clothing is important in protecting us from skin cancer because it helps to block the harmful UV rays of the sun from reaching our skin. UV radiation is a known risk factor for skin cancer, and repeated exposure to UV rays can damage the DNA in our skin cells, leading to mutations and potentially cancerous growths.

Sun protection clothing is specially designed to provide a physical barrier between our skin and the sun's harmful UV rays. The fabric used in sun protection clothing is often tightly woven and contains special UV-absorbing compounds that can block out a significant portion of the UV radiation. Additionally, many sun protection clothing items are also designed with features such as long sleeves and hooded sun shirts that provide extra coverage and protection.

Hooded UPF+50 Sun Shirt

While cotton shirts can provide some level of protection against UV rays, they do not offer as much protection as specially designed sun protection clothing.

The extent to which a cotton shirt can protect you from UV rays depends on several factors, including the thickness of the fabric, the color of the fabric, and how tightly the fabric is woven. Generally, darker and thicker cotton fabrics tend to provide more UV protection than lighter and thinner fabrics. However, even a thick cotton shirt can only block out a certain percentage of UV radiation, and some UV rays can still penetrate the fabric and reach your skin. It is worth noting that wet cotton shirts provide even less UV protection than dry ones, as the moisture in the fabric can make it easier for UV rays to penetrate through.

Moisture wicking shirts are designed to help manage sweat and moisture by pulling moisture away from the skin and allowing it to evaporate quickly. This can help keep you cool and dry, which is especially important during physical activities such as sports or exercise. However, moisture-wicking shirts are not necessarily designed to provide UV protection.

UPF 50 shirts, on the other hand, are specially designed to provide protection against UV radiation. UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor, and it measures how much UV radiation can penetrate the fabric. A UPF rating of 50 means that only 1/50th of the UV radiation can pass through the fabric, providing excellent protection for your skin.

While some UPF shirts may also be moisture-wicking, it's important to note that not all moisture-wicking shirts offer UPF protection. So, if you're looking for a shirt that will protect you from the sun's harmful rays, make sure to look for one that is specifically designed with a UPF rating.

Using sun protection clothing along with other sun protection measures such as sunscreen, seeking shade, and avoiding peak sun hours can significantly reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. It is especially important to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays if you have fair skin, a history of sunburns, or a family history of skin cancer.

Follow these tips to help avoid sun burns and spoiling your fun in the sun.

New Camouflage Custom Shirts

I know this post sounds like a commercial but it's actually meant to introduce you to our new All-Over-Print Camo designs. Okay, maybe it is a shameless promotion but it's just that we are very excited to introduce our Water Camo and Hunting Camo SPF shirts! Yes, we have been printing on camouflage shirts for ever, why is this different? Before we would have to screen print your artwork or logo onto a camo shirt. This limited the amount of colors in the design because we had to use a screen print. We also have to use a thick white under base so the design would show up on the camouflage shirt.
We are now starting with a white dri-fit shirt and dye sublimating the whole shirt. Your artwork is included in the all over design so you will have a full color logo dyed into the fabric of your custom SPF Dri-Fit shirt.
We offer the water-camo in many different colors along with a bunch of hunting camos.
Email us or give us a call and we will help you to get started.
